Two years ago I started this blog, the latest in a long line of websites that stretches back to 1996. In the two years since I began this site, life has been quite a roller-coaster.
Last year I wrote about what I had been up to in the first year of this blog. This year I [...]
Second Blogiversary
Broken
I had built my theme here on top of K2 for Wordpress. Bad idea. I started to rue the decision as soon as I had made it, but I never did anything about it. Well, now is the time.
Wordpress 2.2 broke the already sadly pathetic little K2 in half, so now I am back to [...]
First Blogiversary
‘Twas one year ago today that I began this silliness. One year ago I dropped all pretension of “looking for a job” and began to get comfortable as a self-employed digital hustler of sorts.
In that time I have posted 782 articles containing 95,888 words (or about 119 words per post), not including book or movie [...]
More Asshattery From The Google Mail Team
I have written before about the crappy response from Google I got when I tried to reclaim my misappropriated gmail account. Eventually they (supposedly) disabled the account instead of trying to help me. How do I know? Because I followed their instructions as outlined on their own blog, and here is the response I get:
Your [...]
We’re Live
Finally, the move is complete, and we now have a reliable hosting company. DNS is propagating the changes now, so soon everyone will be able to see the swanky new site design.
Along with our old host, I am jettisoning Movable Type in favor of Wordpress. The process I went through to do so can be [...]
Moving
We are moving to a new host, so if things are wonky around here for the next few days (as if they haven’t been wonky for the last week), that is why.
S.N.A.F.U.
Yes, everything has been broken for a while here. The frustrating thing is that there is nothing I can do about it - it is in the (incompetent) hands of my cut-rate hosting company. Lesson learned. As soon as all of this is straightened out I will be moving to somewhere reliable.
So, if things break [...]
Reorganization
Inspired (or should I say chastised?) by these two posts, I have been looking at ye olde blogge with a critical eye, and have decided to make some changes.
I have been guilty of cluttering up my blog, a blog that is supposedly about minimalism and simplicity. Not only are my posts all over the place, [...]
MTSocialize Updated for Movable Type 3.3
My Movable Type plugin, MTSocialize has been (finally) updated to version 0.5, which should work with Movable Type versions 3.3+. It should now also be possible to install via Plugin Manager
I apologize for how long it has taken me to get this version rolled out, but I didn’t update to 3.3 in order to test [...]
Photography Update
I have been adding some of my backlog of photos to the new galleries so that they don’t look quite so bare. Go take a look.
Google 0, Ebay 1
Even to the best of us, bad things happen; such as losing control of our internet accounts.
This just (as in this morning) happened to me, exactly as it did to Rebellin. My Ebay account and Gmail account were suddenly no longer under my control. I scramble to stem the tide, so to speak; changing passwords [...]
Arghhh!
Why, oh why would a web host be stupid enough to install hundreds of directories for hundreds of customers with permissions 777 and then run apache as ‘nobody‘?
Why would they also run PHP with ‘register_globals=true’ and without open_basedir?
Why would they not use chroot jails for Apache?
Why would they not provide CGIWrap or suEXEC?
…no posts in [...]
Comments Now Work Properly
Thanks to a very helpful Lisa at SixApart, the comments here should finally be working as expected, so if you have a Typekey identity, the site will behave as expected. My apologies for the snafu.
More Cool New Features
Okay, two more fun things to play with, and then I’m done. Really, I swear….
Anyway, I have something of a sitemap now, though I am not yet happy with it, but the hard part (getting movable type to generate it automatically even though this website is actually multiple weblogs in movable type) is done, so [...]
MTSocialize v0.2
I am happy to announce the release of MT Socialize v0.2. This version of the plugin fixes a small problem with the previous version that would cause any page using it to fail the W3C XHTML validation service. Now MT Socialize is standards-compliant.
The new version is live and available from the MT Socialize Homepage
MT Socializer v0.1
I am happy to announce the release of MT Socializer, a plugin for Movable Type versions 3.0 and above.
Pierre Far created an ingenious service in The Socializer, a simple way to submit a link to as many social bookmarking sites as you would like, all at once, without having to maintain a seperate submission link [...]
