001 of 101: Healthy Weight
The Mission: Find & Reach my target healthy weight.
The Rationale: Now that I am officially over 30, I am more aware of the limitations of my body. I cannot just stuff it full of whatever garbage I want to in whatever quantities I want to and expect it to remain svelte and healthy. Obesity ranks second among preventable causes of death. Tobacco use is number one.No one is to blame for the extra weight I carry but me, and no one can fix it but me. Dieting is a waste of time and effort, what is needed is a complete and long-lasting change in my relationship to eating.

- Having determined my target healthy weight (180 lb.), I now know that I am 34 pounds overweight. woo hoo.

- I have settled on some software to help out with this project, by providing nutrient analysis and tracking. The calorie tracking/food diary function works well, and provides an opportunity to think about what I eat as opposed to eating whatever falls under my hand.
- 19 January 2007
- The nutrient analysis software is really opening my eyes to what exactly it is I eat in a day. I think that in the long term, this type of analysis, and the changes I can make because of it will be of more use than simple calorie tracking ever could be.

- Ten days in and three pounds gone, which puts me about 15 days ahead of schedule (I set it up to target 30 September 2007 as when I reach my target weight of 180lb). And it’s not water weight either, as I have been hydrating like never before as a result of this nutrition tracking software.

- Funny how paying attention to what is in the foods you eat can make you care more about it, simply by being more aware. I did our grocery shopping for the first time since I started this program, and ‘lo and behold; no eggs or cheddar cheese, and no butter…
