Bad Blogger, No Hummus For You

Well, haven’t I been remiss these last few months? No posts to speak of since the middle of October. It seems as if I ran out of things to say there for a bit.

Never fear; I am just as opinionated and mouthy as before, so the ill-advised screeds and rants will recommence shortly.

In the mean time, here are some highlights (in my opinion) of the last several months:

  • I have reconnected with a lot of old friends and acquaintances recently, most of whom have turned out to be far more interesting people than I once thought they were. Hopefully they aren’t too disappointed by my continuing obnoxiousness.
  • Everyone who ate anything I cooked over the holidays (which turned out to be quite a number) all responded with versions of “really, this is vegan?”. Yes, yes it is. Enjoy.
  • Not everywhere is a cesspool of omnivore ignorance. Actually, most places aren’t. I just seem to be living in one, so it was really nice to have wait staff ask if we were vegan when we ordered vegetarian dishes without cheese, and then point out other things on the menu to us. This happened all over the place on our travels, so I can only assume that it is just right where we live that ordering something that is marked as vegan on the menu (the one dish in the one restaurant in a town of 70,000) would mean that I wanted cheese and sour cream on it.
  • The pathetic culinary state of our current town was really brought home by how excited we were to be able to buy olives by the pound again once we drove somewhere else. I mean, if we haven’t seen an olive bar in so long that the sight of one gets us that excited, maybe we’re living in the wrong place. You think?
  • Some awesome Thai folks with a restaurant in my old stomping grounds busted out some Buddhist (Buddhists are vegan you know) Tom Yum soup that completely blew me away.
  • I have lost 40 pounds since I decided to stop making excuses and do something about it. For anyone wondering what the secret to weight loss is, here it is in four words: eat less, move more.
  • Pro Evolution Soccer on the Wii is just mental. Completely. Ditto NHL 2K9.

Okay, so maybe food is still a bit high on my mental list of topics, but what did you expect from me? All ethics and politics begins (or at least should begin) from the realities of our own private lives, and eating and sleeping are the only two activities you must engage in to stay alive. So yeah, I think a lot about those two activities, and try work out from there into the rest of the things that I do.

There is much more to rant about. Stay tuned and remember, if you’re not angry, you’re not paying attention.
