Utah Phillips caught the westbound last night – passing away around 11:30pm. As Utah was fond of quoting from Joe Hill: Don’t mourn, organize!

Just heard from a friend that Utah died Friday. I suppose he’s gone to that Starlight on the Rails now.
I was fortunate to have seen him in one of the last concerts he gave, in Grass Valley, near his home in Nevada City, CA. It was last Apr, ’07, part of a trip I did up to Yoesemite and Sequoia Nat Pks and historic Hgwy 49 throught the foothill goldrush country of the western Sierras. I had hung out with him and Saul Brody quite a bit in the early 70′s at various festivals around Ontario, Canada, upstate NY, and Calif., and it was fantastic to see him again 30 yrs later.
A great, compassionate and very funny man of a million stories, many of which are now gone with him. We’ll be seein’ ya old friend…
On the Goodnight Trail, on the Lovin’ Trail……
