COUNCIL leader Michael White gave a clear indication this week that some of the borough’s parks and open spaces were likely to be sold off within the next few years.

Havering has 120 open spaces, but not enough money to maintain them.

Cllr White said: “There are far too many open spaces compared to other boroughs.

“Whether it happens this year, next or year or within the next five years - sooner or later the community will need to have a serious conversation over how many it can afford.”

Residents attending a special meeting arranged by Romford MP Andrew Rosindell discussed the matter, despite it not being on the agenda. Scores turned out after a rumour spread that the Town Hall was looking at developing stables in orange Tree Hill into homes.
