Over at First Monday, there is an excellent article by Nikolai Bezroukov that looks at some commonly held misconceptions about Open Source and Linux. Published December 6th 1999 this is not new news, but Bezroukov’s approach and writing make it well worth a read.

Over at First Monday, there is an excellent article by Nikolai Bezroukov that looks at some commonly held misconceptions about Open Source and Linux. Published December 6th 1999 this is not new news, but Bezroukov’s approach and writing make it well worth a read.

Bezroukov treats five common misconceptions that are prevelant within the F/OSS community:

  • Brooks’ Law does not apply to Internet-based distributed development;
  • “Given enough eyeballs, all bugs are shallow”;
  • Linux belongs to the Bazaar development model;
  • OSS development model automatically yields the best results;
  • The Bazaar development model is a new and revolutionary model of software development.
