So much of modern life, at an individual level, is focused on the things we will have someday, are working for, want or need. In short, it’s all about what you don’t have. Spending you whole life focused on what you do not have, instead of what you do have is a sure path to misery.

So, in order to keep myself focused on the things I do have - to keep the constant pining for the future at bay - I will be posting, every Saturday, a list of things that I am grateful for. Maybe big things, maybe little things, but at least five things I am grateful for.

So, to kick it off, here are the things I am most grateful for this week:

  1. A friend who will give you a ride when your car is broken down.
  2. The devotion of dogs.
  3. The researchers at Glaxo Smith Kline who developed Wellbutrin.
  4. People who leave me comments here.
  5. A week in which I could feel myself growing and changing.
