This Saturday, we are having a final yard sale to get rid of the remainder of the stuff we had collected for no good reason. I am very excited to be closing the door on this chapter of my craziness, finally.
We have been working towards this point for more than a year now, beginning with a half-dozen boxes we filled up with random junk laying around and put in the garage. As we got more serious about simplifying our lives, and “unjunking” ourselves, the garage became the junk-yard of sorts. Everything we didn’t want (or later thought we could live without) went in there.
When we reached a point of stuff equilibrium, months later, the house was spartan and clean, and the garage was jammed to the cieling with crud. I have been slowly sorting and sifting that mountain of stuff, throwing away what was broken or unidentifiable, selling/giving to friends some of the useful stuff that we had bought multiples of because we couldn’t find the original, selling some on eBay and half.com, and through our local newspaper for bigger-ticket items.
As it stands right now, we have the stuff that willl be in the yard sale this weekend (mostly remaindered books, clothes and housewares), and a couple of big-ticket items that are tentatively spoken for. We can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.
