I have been telling people for a while now that I thought that Americans were carrying record levels of personal debt because of the social pressures to spend and overspend, but now I have my first piece of proof that it isn’t just social pressure, but governmental pressure as well that keeps you in debt.

As Walter Soehnge found out, the Department of Homeland Security doesn’t think that a red-blooded American would ever try to pay down their credit card debt. That’s why if the increase in your payment hits a certain percentage higher than that normal payment, Homeland Security has to be notified by your bank!

So there you have it. According to the United States government, only terrorists don’t want credit card debt…
